Acidbomb 2: Rearmed

Post by Pater Alf »

"Acidbomb 2: Rearmed is the sequel to the acclaimed Acidbomb (noted by such sites as Gamespy.com and in the Top 100 Free Games of 2006 on 1up.com) that takes the original and gives it a complete overhaul. If you thought the first game was too easy or unbalanced...you’re in for a treat. This game is for the casual and hardcore puzzle fanatic alike.

The objective: secure the world by defusing bombs from criminals and terrorists alike. As you crack down on this new and dangerous threat, the technology improves with both the Homeland Security team (new weapons) and the terrorists (new bomb types, such as Biological, Oxidation and more). We also have reason to believe that there are several nuclear bombs hidden in major public areas in the United States, Europe and Japan...and the clock is ticking...

With over fifty levels, unlockable content and minigames and more, you’ll be busy fighting the terrorist threat for quite a while..." (Info taken from Vertigo Games)

Please note that due to me, among others, pestering the developers, a new version of the game was released a week ago, which fixed the difficulty of stage 5-43, which was close to impossible.

I heard this was going to become commercial (possibly) so it may become illegal to host.

I read about this too. But at the moment there is no statement about the game becoming commercial at the homepage of "Vertigo Games" and we have permission to host all their games. So I think we should wait if this one really becomes commercial before we start to worry about it...

But we'll likely lose permission if game becomes commercial.

What's the point of rereleasing freeware game as commercial? It's always the other way around. Maybe Vertigo want to make "deluxe" edition? Would be cool. Dont really believe this will be same game as the one you can download now. Quite senseless to me.

News from Indygamer.blogspot.com:

Endurance Mode - a huge, massive bomb with seven quadrants and increasing pistons
Shell Editor - make your own bomb from scratch to swap and share with friends, or play custom levels by others.
Shell-Drop - the original ShellBlast game in Acidbomb 2 is unlocked from the get-go, complete with enhanced scoreboard features
- All original 51 levels from the freeware version
- Windows Vista support
- New music, along with a jukebox feature that lets you change tracks on the fly."

From Vertigo Games FAQ:

Will AB2 still be free?
Yes. However in the near future it may be taken off our site. Still, you're free to share and post Acidbomb 2: Rearmed on other websites.

- So just make sure we have a copy!

Unlike the first game, this one gets much harder and forces you to learn new techniques. One of the things was that you sometimes didn't have the 'baseline', the place where there is 0 pistons.
A technique which helped me was, that instead of calculating the numbers each time, i looked at if they were even or uneven numbers. if the number of pistons in both columns are both even, or both uneven, then the number shouldn't change from even to uneven, and vice-versa when comparing tiles, else it's a piston. it inverses when the tile you are comparing from is a piston itself.

Aside from that stage that was almost impossible before it was patched, I didn't think AB2 was very hard. It had more variety than the first one though, which was nice.
