Dan Dare: Pilot of the Future

Post by Pater Alf »

Another great remake by Ovine by Design. I really loved the original game and it seems the remake has exactly the same level design and the same puzzles, but massivly improved graphics and a great soundtrack.

The Story:

"Dan dare the original Super Hero was being featured on the Earth Broadcasting Corporation "This is you Life" programme. The invited guests who spoke glowingly of Dan's achievements, his bravery and compassion, included . . .
His faithfull friend Digby who had shared so many of Dan's adventures, Professor Peabody, Space Fleet Commander Sir Hubert Guest, Sondor the Venusian ambassador along with his equivalent from every planet in the known universe. It seemed the whole world had turned out to honour Dan.
Dan Dare, embarrased but deeply moved by these accolades, stepped forward to speak, suddenly the picture on every vid screen in the solar system changed into a series of horizontal lines, slowly clearing to reveal none other than the evil green face of the Mekon.
The Mekon proceeded to tell of his dastardly plan to propel a hollowed out asteroid the size of a minor planet on a collision course with Earth . If the powers that be did not give into his terms Earth would be eliminated.
If they agreed the asteroid would be harmlessly detonated, Earth would be safe and the Mekon would take over as commander of the universe. They could not give in to the Mekon's threats but what was the alternative?
In the studio the assembled gathering turned their gaze to one man, Colonel Dan Dare knew what he had to do." (taken from the official homepage)

I have some issues with finding my way in this game. The game looks really good, so it annoys me a great deal. I have that feeling that I am doing something wrong...

Probably not. It's part of the game to find your way and find out what's going on. It was the same thing in the original game, so I knew it would come when started plying. You should consider this one as an adventure game where you have to solve puzzles before you can go on.

So what you are saying is that I should google "Dan Dare Walkthrough" instead of "Dan Dare Map". :)

Either that or you have to use your own brain. In fact most of the puzzles are not really that hard...

To run Dan Dare in a window -
create a shortcut and add /W at the end of ” target”.

Saving is done automatically at specific places in the game

It's a pretty puzzler, but it felt a bit slow. Why can Dan not go any faster than a slow stroll. Especially at the end. In the caves i didn't like that you can't see from the terrain where you can and cannot walk, so you have to walk to all the edges. Otherwise it's a nice short game.
