Earok 2011 Collection (Help wanted with localization)
Hi all,
I have been working on enhanced re-releases of all of my games (Including Derelict and The Kiwi's Tale, featured on this site). One of the main features I want to add for all of the games is localisation for various languages.
I am most interested in Polish, Spanish, German and Italian (A friend is helping me with Portuguese) but I would definitely like to make translations for any language that uses the Latin character set.
If you can help with translations, or would like to do some playtesting, please get in touch, thanks.

That shouldn't be a problem. I use bitmap fonts in my games and these are the characters I can support, which include all three of the ones you listed.Chroelle wrote:Damn you Æ Ø Å - you always get in the Danish peoples way...
In any case, if a couple of extra ones are required, we can replace unused characters (Copyright, Trademark symbols etc) with the ones we need.

I think I can help with the German translations. About how much text are we talking?

Re: Earok 2011 Collection (Help wanted with localization)
Hi Pater,
There isn't much text. Maybe a page or two per game. Although Derelict has a lot of text I was only planning to localize the menus to start with.
Blow Stuff Up is the first game that is ready to be translated. Inside the zip folder is a folder called language, and there are two plain text files in there, language.en (English) and language.pt (Portuguese).
You'd need to make a copy of one of the files and rename it (Say, to language.de). The first line of the file is just the name of the language, and after that are pairs of values with all of the translatable text in the game. The value before the colon is not to be changed because it is used by the game engine, but the value after the colon is the text that is displayed on screen.
If you want to have a crack at it, please let me know if you have any difficulty.
Thanks heaps,
Erik Hogan

Re: Earok 2011 Collection (Help wanted with localization)
But we have the three special characters æ/Æ ø/Ø å/Å... Isn't that going to pose a problem??

Weird...that post must have slipped my "unread posts" list... Never saw it before PA quoted..
Thanks for clearing that up.
I will have a go at it very soon. With Winter-een-mas coming up I know I have to dedicate myself more to gaming.

Re: Earok 2011 Collection (Help wanted with localization)
I just downloaded the game and had a look at the text file (sorry I didn't had time for it before). That' really not much text (not even one screen in the text editor). I think I can translate it on thursday the latest. Please remind if if you don't hear anything from me till friday.earok wrote:Hi Pater,

Re: Earok 2011 Collection (Help wanted with localization)
Hm..
This line is giving me some issues...
"Capitalists of La Isla Bonita must destroy make."
Destroy make? Is he speaking a broken English or is Make a name?
There is absolutely no problem with translating this in a hurry. You might even get a hold of some other people in here that could do other languages. It takes no time at all to get done.
EDIT:
and this too:
Building car crush (does that mean a building tipped down onto a car?
(Perhaps I should play the game to see for myself, but unfortunately I am at work waiting for some things to get done so I can continue work, and I can't open up a game here...)

Re: Earok 2011 Collection (Help wanted with localization)
Uh, sorry, yes that is intended to be broken English, and if possible that 'spirit' should be kept in the translation. I don't expect you to go this far, but Gui who did the Portuguese translation went so far as to study how Russians speak Portuguese.
And yes, building car crush means that a building crushed a car. It's neat to pull that particular move off in the game.
