I have watched first episode of House of Cards. It left me in a state of semi-euphoria what makes me conclude that it's better than sex. There are very few tv series I can rate that high.

I watched all 6 episodes of a short running series called The Yard. Essentially a series about playground politics. At first I was skeptical, but turned out to be a fantastic parody of politics and the bullsh*t that people put up with on a daily basis through the eyes of kids in a playground.

I finished House of Cards. Further episodes dont match the quality of first one and some dialogues and plots are surprisingly shallow, but it's the top show anyway.

Nobody's mentioned Breaking Bad on here? Odd.
Breaking Bad is the polar opposite of my regularly watched shows. It's a "bad" show about "bad" people, doing drugs and being generally "bad".
Not my cup of tea.

.. Until someone said to me "No, you really should watch it!", so I did just to prove that it isn't for everyone, and how much I'd hate it.
..
Boy, was I wrong!
That show kicks ass!

As a premise, as a concept, as a general series, it doesn't work for me.
But as a story.. Man..!
As a story, that show is absolutely one of the best things I've ever watched, TV or Movie, ever!
It twists and turns, it leaps and bounds, and it even makes sense! All the way through!!
It never misses a beat, everything interconnects, and everything has a proper ending, too.

Seriously, if you haven't watched it yet, set aside a couple of hours a day and get marathon'ing that sucker. Because you really won't regret it.
Once it gets going, it's VERY hard to put it down, much like a really good book!

I finished watching Homeland.

We were sitting with friends during New Year's midnight skipping various movies sister of my friend had on hd and nobody got interested in anything until we began watching first episode of some tv series about a soldier who is rescued from Afghanistan after being declared dead. It proved to be quite interesting, so I began watching it and I ended up watching 4 seasons. It's not a show comparable in quality to Sopranos or The Wire and, surprisingly, first season has worst dialogues written by some dumba ss, but it gets better with time. It's another of those "everything's a game" shows where characters are involved in some sort of entanglement where how (whether they survive at all) they live depends solely on their complex position in society and acceptance by other members of earthian tribe.

Slightly recommended in other words.

fake edit:

I wouldnt be myself if I hadnt note that modern US tv series are so completely different from old cinema movies. It's almost like a paradigm shift. Old movies (roughly speaking pre-1970) were centered around various cowboys and bogarts shaping their life paths like icebreakers. Now, tv series tend to depict males as deeply broken, uncertain and unreliable.

Entanglement (not liquidity like Bauman would say) is probably the word that defines the whole media-frenzied humankind atm. It's almost as qm spreads unconsciously over the whole earth, like a shadow.

I started watching Castle today. (Recently got Netflix, but aren't really a movie fan... Lots of new shows to watch, though!!) After so many "epic story-arc" shows, lately, it's good to go back to a "story of the week" sort of show again..

Some series i've recently seen and can very much recommend, are Firefly and Sherlock

Firefly is where you follow a starship captain whose past is that he fought in a war. His side - the Independents - were defending a planet called Serenity where they had a crushing defeat against the Alliance. He has since bought a starship - Firefly class - in order to stay out of reach of the Allience's continued conquest of the independent planets, and stay free.

Sherlock is a newer series based in current time, where the character Sherlock Holmes is a person able to notice and quickly draw incredibly detailed deductions from seemingly trvivial details. He uses those abilities as the world's only consulting detective. Due to his excentric and sociopathic personality, he's never had anyone who wants to be around him very much, but He meets John Watson, a recently returned war veteran who longs for the excitement and is therefore drawn to the world Sherlock brings with him.

Anybody remembers everybody's favourite rumpled detective?

Following my agenda of watching old (usually) movies I am watching Columbo, all episodes. My manager tries to interest me with True Detective, but oldies always win for me.

I watched Columbo as a kid, but I dont remember almost anything, except his glass eye, coat and plots giving me thrills, probably because of Falk's magical aura, because I hardly understood plots then. Thrills are gone, instead plots are clear.

I never watched Columbo, but i could imagine, with the character, it was a show i could have gotten into, like with Poirot.

At the moment, i'm doing everything with Babylon 5 in chronological order. The game Babylon 5 - I've Found Her takes place before the series so i played through that first, and the the series, and some movies in between. There are also some custom campaigns in the game that's from different points in the series.
I'm half way through season 2 at the moment. I wouldn't say the series is epic, but it does get exciting and mysterious from time to time. It's strength is that it creates a sci-fi universe with characters you get to know and love.

Watch it, it's great show. A little fusty if you're not into old movies.

It's also full of stars cast in main roles like Johnny Cash, Ray Milland, Martin Sheen, John Cassavetes, Leslie Nielsen. First episode of first season was directed by, then unknown, Steven Spielberg. Some episodes lack in plot department, but shine in acting - and the other way around, like if frequently happens in similar shows, but as a whole it's great.

I'm now into the third season of Babylon 5. In the first season it's mostly a normal tv series, where there is the typical new thing happening every episode, but into season 2 and especially 3 it's gradually gotten bigger and more epic, with more permanent series changing events. It's turning into a real epic space opera with everything in it, and getting more exciting after each episode.
This show was already good from the first season, but it definitely gets better.

Places were I do not expect a reference to the ending of Terry Gilliam's Brazil: an episode of the supposedly children's show Adventure Time.

Well, I started watching Inspector Morse series recently, but it doesnt compare to the best crime shows Ive seen. Either I watched too many or its just weaker.

The new show from Matt Groening, Disenchanted, feels a bit mixed from me. It's clearly similar to Futurama but not as nerdy...
