It can. But the way I'm thinking about will be quite a resource hog. I think it might slow down the forum, and I am unsure if it's worth. Of course there may be another way, I just needed some time to...

I was actually thinking of a simple option menu popping up after you've made x amount of posts...

"Choose your career"

And then 3 options (like a poll).

You'll then be in that "path" until the next option.

Surely this isn't hard to do... but then I know nothing about programming!! :)

Just thought I would offer a suggestion, regarding the ranking system.

I came across this at a site called LinkFilter.

Basically when you level up, a picture appears on the screen with text stating 'You have reached a new level/rank, etc' (different pictures for different levels). It stays there until you click to get out of it (and go back to whatever your doing). I can honestly say that this system actually made gaining 'levels' feel a good deal more rewarding and I would actually like to use this system on my site eventually also.

Anyways - just a suggestion.

I like that suggestion if it's possible without too much technical effort :)

We have decided to downpiroritize Ranks as we are not yet working full force on the forum-design and features. We are currently working on the downloadspage and the mainpage will be next project.
When this is running smoothly we will return to the forum features.

We will however accept new ideas and suggestions for ranks in the meantime. But do not expect a fast reply.

I think we need a new ranksystem. Any ideas are welcome, even if you dont have a complete system but just an idea. Lets hear them :D
I think we need something that could easily be about both forum and points in general. But I am very open to ideas!

I still have my hearts on a gaming system...

If not game developers, hows about gamesystems? I.E. from oldest to newest? Or even crucial games?

Like:
0-20 Pong player
20-100 Space invader
100-150 Donkey konger
200 Joust enthusiast
...
1000 Doomguy
1200 Duke of Nukem :P
...
4000 Stalker

and so forth?

I like the following:
1. printf()
2. if - else
3. for(;;)
4. scanf()
5. fopen()
6. EOF
7. pointer
8. Segmentation Fault
9. malloc()
10. Memory Leak
11. free()
12. realloc()
13. enum
14. struct
15. typedef
16. cast
17 typedef void (*foo)(int bar)
18. fork()
19. deadlock
20. mutex
21. semaphore
22. reentrant
23. socket
24. signal()

I also had an idea about a few possible rank lists, from which user could select the one he wished to have for himself ;)

I linked ranks to points instead of posts. I also made it possible to have 4 different ranks table, from which users can choose one. ATM first option is same as the old CWF option, and option 2 is the one I represented above with a few additional ranks). Unfortunately I did not have time to add possibility to change the rank set yet... But don't worry, I'll be doing it... Sooner or later :)

Anyhoo. now we need 2 more ranks ladders. both of them having 28 'steps'...

Oh, and I assume points calculation or ranks / points ratio may need some fixing :D

Amazing work Maz. I remember we talked about something like thisa while back. Where a rank ladder would lead you out the rank ladder that fitted your forumuse best. So members who spent alot of time in gaming forums would be on the gaming ladder, while people in the debate forums would be on a political ladder and so on. I think however that it is better to let people choose for themselves. It should be no real problem making 28 steps on two more ladders.
Dottie are you up for doing one on gaming?
I would like to polish off the current CWF social-ladder so it is fitting.

That means we could use one, that could be a Roman army ranking, but I am afraid there is not 28 steps in that, so we would have to develop the ladder more.

I think we have some potential here :D

Sure, if you're prepared to wait for a while. I do not like generic ranks, so it may take a while to come up with the wording I find adequate :p

Changing the ranking set is now possible via the profile link. I just hope Dotty has not forgot... ;) Perhaps he needs some kicking? :grin:

Is the ranks tied up to posts or points? I am guessing posts still.

EDIT: Just saw I was wrong. BTW: Can I edit ranks like normal or is it done in a totally different place now? Just before I do something bad...

Editing is simply not yet possible. :D (Not via any nice interface, only way to do editions is to do them straight into database...)
