Ranks

Post by Chroelle »

Chillum came up with an idea for a rank-system, and I put some more work into it. So here is the rank-system as it will be, and all input, additions and such are welcome. Please, if you have additions, tell us where you want them to go. Postcount is not added as this would just mean more work everytime we had to add something.

Slave
Servant
Endentured Servant
Free slave
Poor Citizen
Struggling artist
Student
citizen
street merchant
Farmer
Reputable citizen
Shop keeper
Merchant
Small plantation owner
Slave plantation owner
Big slave plantation owner
Honored citizen
High class citizen
Politician
General
Warhero
Legend

STEP 2.

God-kin
Demigod
etc...

Wonder if I have some questions, if that is OK to come with them to ?..
When I look at this, I have no idea what each rank compares to..
When do you get which rank ? You say that it doesn't have anything todo with the postcount.. Then how is the rank measured ?

Sorry I didn't make myself clear. It has all to do with postcount. I just don't want to write postcounts besides the words since it would demand a whole lot of work whenever a rank was added in the middle.

e.g.: 500-750 Student
and then somebody would come up with graduate student which would have to go between student and citizen, and then I would have to change every rank after that so that the postcount would add up, without making any big jumps in rank.

this means, that if I come up with a new rank, which you all agree is a good idea, someone might get demoted since the new rank will require an area of post say 500-700.. ? So those at 650 which was citizen before, will now become graduent student ?

I understand the idea why postcount in will make it harder to manage.. But on the other hand also make it more obvious which rank you have..

Will the one with the highest postcount have the highest rank, and then the rest will have their rank calculated from that ?

This is only temporary, that you can make suggestions. The whole system wont be made until I have something that feels like a complete ranksystem.
Mostly because it would take a lot of work to get done, with constant updating.

Maybe I should set a date for final submissions... I wont yet. Not until I have an idea og how many members will join, and where the forum is going.

As I was saying. We would love to make this list longer. All input is welcome. It would be great if Step 2 wasn't reached before at least 5000 points. Be aware that we are working on making a main page where it is possible to make points too, by reviewing, submitting and maybe other things.

I was thinking.... (I know...It's scary)
Does somebody know the English ranking system for officers, because that could prolong the list. Only above sergeant. I'm not sure wether they have some below...

The following comments are not to be taken entirely seriously. ^^; I like the ranks already as they are, but a few things I'd like to ask about. I feel like I'm somehow butting in right now, posting smilies and about ranks, ahem. ^^;
Chroelle wrote:

51-100 Slave
Why do I get the feeling I don't really want to post more than 50 times? ^^; Personally I consider being a slave significantly worse than, say, unemployed. Not like it mattered a lot, just a thought. *cough*

edit: Naturally, at least a slave has a home and some feeding... but it's so... so... hard work being a slave... *shakes head*
Chroelle wrote: 450-500 Teacher

Teacher below street vendor and farmer? Shucks, it takes years to become a teacher, while a farmer's heir can be born as a farmer... >_>
Chroelle wrote: 1251-1500 Large plantation owner
1501-1750 Big plantation owner
As I'm not a native English speaker, I don't know if it's just me, but I don't see any difference between 'big' and 'large' in this context. Perhaps they could be replaced with 'wealthy' and 'rich' instead?
Chroelle wrote: 1751-2000 Honored citizen
2001-2500 High class citizen
2501-3000 Politician
3001-3500 Statesman
3501-4000 Officer
Noo! How can an officer be more reputable than a statesman or a high class citizen or even a teacher (edit: or even a politician)... my anti-military ego suffers so much... *sniff*
Chroelle wrote: 3501-4000 Officer

4501-5000 General
Now, an officer is always of a higher rank than a sergeant. Sergeant is, after all, one of the lowest non-commissioned officer ranks, and all officers are higher than the NCOs.

edit: Oh yes, there is that link to the British ranks; no need to point this out anymore. Pardon me. ^^;

On other note, if you still need any suggestions, how about ranks like Professor, Author, Banker or Advocate? Professor and author sound pretty good to me. (Super Ego: Shame on you, pushing your own dream jobs into other people.) Ah haha. ^^;

I am guessing that Banker would have to be one of the lowest ranks hey Pitkin? ;)
I would put it right in between Tax collector and Lawyer. ;)

Basically we are working out the system by old time esteemed job, so I would put lawyer higher since we are in 100 or so years back in time. Well they only have themselves to blame that they crashed through the system and down to the bottom in a century... :D

Teacher below street vendor and farmer? Shucks, it takes years to become a teacher, while a farmer's heir can be born as a farmer... >_>
Hence making it a lifetime achievement to become a farmer.

I was thinking of an old fashioned teacher that walked from house to house and tought kids things. I actually thought of professor when I made it (that it would be some ranks higher up the ladder) but then totally forgot...
I think Banker, advocate/lawyer and professor are good ones. Author I think is a bit hard. Where on the ladder would you place him???

About the officer, that was a glitsch...
I think I got too focused on making ranks that I forgot that sergeant was a lower class officer.
How can an officer be more reputable than a statesman or a high class citizen or even a teacher (edit: or even a politician)
This was actually to make a naturaly descent to STEP 2 of the ranks. We went greek in that one, and made the soldier a top-hat of the society. This way we coul build it inot the legend, warhero that became god-kin, demigod, etc...

We could use some suggestions on build-up, while we are all still in the low ranks. :D Feel free Pitkin.
