Namechange

Post by Drasir-Vel »

Is it possible to change your nickname?
I thought that if the nickname was changed, all the posts bound to that name would become orphans.
Or should i make a new account? I know i would lose the reputation points and all that, but i don't care much about that.

well... let's just say that with raw access to database everything is possible.

If a divine intervetion does happen and the nickname is changed, the posts will remain, because they're linked to your user id number (384), not your name. There will, of course, be pretty interesting discussions where posts addressed to stiven are answered by someone else...

If you create a new account, the reputation points and other information are easily copied over by same aforementioned divine intervetion.

I think namechange can be done without digging into the database as such. I think it is possible to do it via the adminpanel. Let me dig into it and I will let you know.
If you know what you want to change into just let me know and I can do it for you maybe. One thing that might be a bit weird. What about your username and password - will they automatically change??? Might be a good idea to find an email address for me or Zyx before doing this so you can contact us if something goes haywire.

EDIT:
It seems to be more than easy. It seems I can simply write your new name in your userinfo. So any wishes?

OK. If it was possible, i would like to change the nickname to "Drasir-Vel". I believe you can see my email under my profile, but in any case, it's not a secret; "[email protected]".

Edit: so this means that i keep the password, but only have to login with another name?

I think so, but let me know if it doesn't work that way. I will go change your name now. (Wish me luck)

Me too. Fortunately I dont think that there are too many posts that has the word Stiven in it in here. :) But we can always try and search to see what shows up.

Not to mention the big bouncy news post filling the frontpage :)
But i don't think it's that important to change them. Because i was "Stiven" at the time the posts were made, and people can just ask if they care.
