[Helper] Pager - Programmer, StoryLine/Dialogue

Post by Pager »

I can provide assistance for Programming and Game Design of Freeware projects, time permitting around my work schedule in IT, which is roughly 35 hours a week.

I have knowledge of programming in the following languages: C/C++/C#, JAVA, VBScript, PROLOG, COBOL, and HTML. I have programmed primarily in Windows exnvironments, but have programmed in JAVA on a Solaris machine.

My experience with these languages comes mostly from my Bachelors Degree in Computer Science. School Developments of note: 1. Solar System model, physics, graphical and interface programmed in C++ using OpenGL. 2. Battleship, Artificial Intelligence programmed in C#.

I have also used Hammer SDK (Half-life 2), read some documentation on DirectX SDK for C++ and have begun tinkering with AGS.

Currently I am enrolled in a Film Making Certification program, having completed courses pertaining to film techniques, storyboarding, script/dialogue writing and video editing. Which could be utilized for FMV or cutscene sequences.

I am currently writing 3 screenplays and 2 novels in varying genres, which I'm hoping to complete sometime in the near future.

My spoken and written language is English. I can read some French and German, but can not speak either beyond, "Hello."

I can also perform monotonous programming like scripting. I do this on a day-to-day basis and am rather fond of it.

I would need your help in revived MazPong... I would need

1. Help for setting up sane coordinate system... I would like having a fixed coordinate system on server maintaining plate and ball positions, for example 600x400 position points. I am not sure, but I think glut should support mapping this to real screen coordinates? There is these glScale, glOrtho2D, setViewport and fellow functions. However I just do not seem to be able to get the pieces on correct places...

2. Help debugging why the heck the ball is not drawn :D

Oh, and even though you Pager were the first one popping on my mind, I do not mind if someone else helps me while you're not available :p

if someone want's to help with item 2, sources can be downloaded using svn from
http://xp-dev.com/svn/MazPong/trunk
the problematic parts are in client/drawable_ball.c and client/pong_drawer.c

You make poke fun at the idea, but the truth is that the idea is very serious.

oh, ok. But with MazPong we need to provide the story and puzzles as a separate text file. My C-enthusiasm just is not quite enough to write that in game =D

oh, and I've more or less solved the problems I was posting about. linux version is currently drawing the ball and plate, but windows version just exits - and I do not really know why is that... So perhaps Pager would help me with windows version's issues :p

Plot idea:

On an island far far aay, deep in a dark cave lives the dots. The female dots are white circular beings, and the male dots are oblong rectangular mastodonts with a very different approach to government and the constitution of marriage. The fragile peace in the cave is broken when Pongs wife is snatched from his bed in the middle of the night, taken by the evil Gnop - Pongs twin brother - and carried to the deepest darkmost of the amazing caves. As Pong finds out he chases them down, and a battle of wills begin. Gnop tries to keep a hold on Pongs wife but with every heartbeat Pong has ever beaten for his wife, he tries to get her. A battle of will begins as Gnop throws a rock at Pong, and he quickly headbutts it back at him.

Add some feelings to the dots and Peter Molyneux would be happy. Jonathan Blow would demand more subtle plot.
