Purpose of this thread is to gather as much useful links and resources as possible. So feel free to comment, ask for help, give tips to others, you can even add/write your own tutorial.

This isthe work in progress, so expect MANY more links in nearby future. ;)

Great tutorials. The first link (increator) explains it so that I think I could do it. The barnettcollege link made me hope when I saw the pic but dragged me back to reality once I started reading.
I think one would have to do a couple of hundred backgrounds of the first kind before going for the second look. Especially if you like me do not have any talents regarding drawing and paint shop.
