There doesn't seem to be any (strange but true). I downloaded some of the games and everything was ok with them (as they say on there homepage no spyware or adware was included).

So I think publishers might see this "24 hour giveaway" as a way to make their company and their games more popular.

OTS Software - Freeware Games

by OTSsoftware
I just found your forum, and I think it is great. I was drawn immediately to this topic, and I am sure I am biased, but I feel like OTS Software (www.otssoftware.com) meets the requirements for this thread (quality freeware).

Over the past 5 years, we have developed 21 freeware games of all genres and for all PC specs. We have everything from First Person Shooters to Kids Games. Most games will run on any PC from Windows 95 to Windows Vista. Some of our more recent games have higher requirements (Vista with a DirectX 10 card). All our games our freeware (supported though an OPTIONAL toolbar and on-site advertising - we also offer game sponsorships).

We are always open to suggestions for new games as we roll out new games on a regular basis. We are currently focused on upgrading all our older games to be compatible with Windows Vista. We should have that completed in a couple months.

If someone from this site is interested in a link exchange (http://www.otssoftware.com/Links.aspx), please e-mail us and let us know. Also, if I am missing the point of this forum and it is only for freeware distribution sites and not developers, please let me know that too. I have no intention of spamming this forum. I know all too well how annoying that can be as we have temporarily removed our forum because of spam.

Thanks.

There is no misunderstanding. You did exactly as we would like people to do. :)

I will look into the link exchange. It is a thin line we have that I need to be sure what we want to link exchange to and what we dont want to. All due to fairness, it is not ok if we host to some developers and not to others unless we think there is a special purpose for it.

Hmm... Wasnt this thread intended for non-developers sites? :D

But if freeware developer hosts so many games it would be actually quite ok to let know about it here. This way it wont get lost. :D

Should be something interesting in here (sorry if it's redundant, I hope it's not):

Didn't know where else to post it.

Abandonia Reloaded: http://www.reloaded.org/
A site dedicated to retro remakes and community made freeware

Download-Free-Games: http://www.download-free-games.com/down ... /freeware/
A section on this site is dedicated to freeware games, and there's quite a few good ones.

Home of the Underdogs a.k.a. HOTU: http://www.the-underdogs.info/
This really is a veteran site regarding freeware, and it's been around before many of the others came. It has games that you often can't find anywhere else.
It hasn't been updated for while though and is kind of dead. Also the download speed is not very high.

I believe we clearly distinguish between abandonware (extremely fuzzy grey area, legally) and actual freeware.

Then i'll remove that one.

Nothing wrong with linking to Underdogs freeware index I believe. ;) If that's possible, because advanced searching not always works there.

Would like to recommend GameJolt.com.
They allow users to upload their own games, so it's more freeform and not always great!! For every awesome game, there's 100 "My First Game!" type things. Nnngh.

But they've stipulated a 100% freeware rule, and every so often there's a great game that crops up and gets reposted to the frontpage.
