Staroid

Post by eMTe »

Staroid is a retroish platformer by Tom Beaumont (of Hex-a-Hop fame). The story is minimal. The goal is to find certain objects/tools scattered around the hostile environment (asteroid or planet of some sort), use them in proper place to fix some engines (for your rocket or something) and avoid enemies. The difference between Staroid and many other C64-inspired games is that enemies spawn all the time and all objects to find, just like additional ammo and energy bars, are placed randomly each time you restart the game, so it gives the game kinda roguelike feel (map is not random though). It also makes it hard, especially that instructions are vague and it is quite hard to discover what to do exactly to finish the game.
