Ace Paceman in a Mario Costume
Same deal as last week. An old Jayenkai game, taken and remade using slightly more mario-esque type things.
After a while, this game started to lose it's D.K.-ness but hopefully you can still tell what it was I was aiming for!
Download it here!
Left and right, Z to shoot/collect water, and X to melt the floors!
Grab some water, douse the flames, catch the spiky balls.
Simple but effective!
Re: Ace Paceman in a Mario Costume
So this is your new strategy for this year? Putting everything in a Mario costume??? Not bad!
Will download and try it.
BTW: I can't see the image...

This one I liked a lot. I like the idea, the setting, the Mario-theme, and the whole graphical style of it.

Re: Ace Paceman in a Mario Costume
I kinda enjoyed this, but ... I dunno, it felt a wee bit "too" upside down at points, especially when trying to catch the spiked-ball.
I found myself confused over the controls, and things would probably have just been better off had he been on the floor, instead of under it!
Still, you live and learn!
Lesson of the day : Upside down isn't right!

I think upside down in this particular game is JUST right. Had it been upside up, downside down it might have looked too much like so many other games... I say keep it.

Re: Ace Paceman in a Mario Costume
The gameplay overall is decent. There's not a lot to the game. Simple concept. Good game elements where you first have to turn the fireballs into iceballs with water and then trap the iceballs in the floor. It reminds me a bit of Lode Runner.
I like that the ladder placement is different every time, to give that little bit of variety.
I think it would be better if you could move more freely. The way it is now, movement feels awkward because you have to move a certain distance at a time and you can't spray water or change direction in between.
It's also very easy to accidentally fall into the hole you made in the floor because you have to be very fast with releasing the direction key.
Apart from that, the controls feel responsive.
Graphics wise, the game runs fluently for me, and the standardised user interface with comprehensive options for resolutions and such, isn't what's pulling down for this game.

A MAR10 game!!? From MARch 2010!!!! Good grief, this game's 4 years old, already!!!
Yeah, I could probably do a much better job of this if I reattempted it nowadays. In fact... You know what... I might just do that!!
