Algodoo (previously "Phun")

Post by Drasir-Vel »

Phun is - though not defined as a game - at least as much fun as many other games. It is a physics simulator. You can use different tools to create and manipulate 2-dimensional objects. Once created, they are affected by the laws of physics, applying mass, size, surface friction, bounciness, and so on. They will interact accordingly, and according to Newtons laws, which the physics engine utilizes. Other things which it is possible to add to the geometry is, hinges, springs and chains. Hinges can be defined to work as engines controlled by keyboard buttons, making it possible to make cars and other mechanical things. It is also possible to make water, so you, for example, can make a boat float in a lake.

So I take it this is a little like 'The Incredible Machines'?

I might just have to try this!

It is indeed like The Incredible Machines, just that your are not limited to the predefined shapes and objects, but can make your own just by drawing.

Downloaded it and installed it. It does not run well on my laptop.

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 2500. P3 1 GHz with an Intel 815EM video adapter.

I had a customer machine come through that used the same casing, but had a P4, so probably I will find a motherboard like his and replace my P3 with a P4. For now, though, I can't run this game properly. :-(

Lots of things have happened to Phun over the recent years. It's been commercialized and renamed as Algodoo, and then later become free again.

Now it's even better, and feels like a more full program. I can very much recommend this.
