The Breakdown

Not much to say - "amateur adventure game" tells all - but it's for sure above average game with very well designed graphics and logical puzzles. I'm not sure what's its length, cause I havent finished it yet, but it's very fun so far.

Lol thats a great game, its a shame that its quite short. I remember its one of my favourites when I was looking for freeware adventures, I wonder if the other one I liked has been mentioned yet?

Not an easy task to find this one after all the years. All links, except one, a bit suspicious, are dead. So I now have it on hd and I'm stuck again.

It's one of those rare games from the freeware period that haven't been created with a tool.

Afair it was never voted in.

I wonder, how many of those games we played here fell into oblivion. Some kind of preservation site for forgotten or impossible to find games may become necessary to establish sooner than I expected.

Yeah, I think the Archive.org guys are doing that. We probably could still hunt for those games and periodically send them over to them with metadata.

Yeah, most likely they do.

I tend to view archive.org as a corpo site. Thats why I never moved from OG or CWF towards "higher" goals. Arguably, OG and CWF were always heavily anarchist, individualist and elitist websites. Also, they ceased to exist when they had to. Archive is just another ultimate common interest site where nothing can go wrong, because the goal goes ahead of people. Definitely, their crew lacks various eMTes. ^^

My imaginary preservation site is more a selection, sort of the site Parvini imagined as his Parvinis World back in ancient times.

Derelict is a good word.

Basically, the site has died, in members' activity department, from natural causes I guess, but I consider it (CWF) a doric column (I know my mind associations sometimes land far). Sites like OG and CWF has been created by certain online civilisation(s) which died, but later come new generations who feel it is in fashion to leave something on this column, like "Johnny kissed Mary here", you know. Bots do the fine job. They come, unaware of what CWF (or any other) site is or was, post chaotic message and leave, just like modern tourists devastate (sometimes) old ruins.

Anyway, Breakdown is really a fine point'n'click adventure. I wonder if I can find the author of the game and bring him here to post few words. Hmmm.

Small update. No, it isn't. It's actually buggy. If you collect more objects than fit into single inventory bar the ones from the bottom are unusable - the pointer is capable only of sensing single bar.

The game MAY BE still finished though if you collect objects in correct order, so that you use and drop them before they take too much space. I haven't checked this yet.

I wonder how many games like this slipped through (this one didn't).

Update.

I have finished the game.

The issue I had mentioned is a bit different actually. The inventory bar(s): you have to move the pointer to the very up of the screen, if you only hold it over the objects instead of touching edge of the screen, it won't "catch" them.

The game has been created with the help of AGAST engine, the completely forgotten tool. Googling shows some old threads from 2003-2005 people discussing which adventure game engine is better, AGAST or AGS. AGAST is actually so ancient nowadays that, despite my googling detective capabilities, I havent been able to establish full list of games created with AGAST. The only hint is MobyGames, Google shows that there was ONCE a list of games on MobyGames created with AGAST, but the link doesn't work. MobyGames loads fine though, so the list is no longer available, probably.

I have forgotten Eye of the Kraken is an AGAST game. Anyway, I doubt the list is full.

Btw, The Breakdown ends with a hint of a sequel.
