Streets of Rage remake

Post by Pater Alf »

First recommended by eMTe!!!

"Streets of Rage Remake is a homage to the famous Sega MegaDrive/Genesis saga, aiming to keep the same gameplay and spirit from the 2nd and 3rd installments with some touches from the 1st one. It includes new music, locations, enemies, moves, graphical effects, a parallel plot and a lot more features." (from the readme.file)

In my eyes this one is a very good arcade/action game. Eight different characters, 43 locations with multipath-splits and 52 different enemy types guarantee for many hours of fun playing this game. There's also an excellent 2 player mode, the possibility to discover and use several weapons.

Developers are currently working on a new version/an update to improve some things like the AI. So I will try to keep an eye on this to inform you as soon as it is done (but playing is great fun in this version nonetheless).

Then we better get this game validated and added to the site. I am not sure if it already passed validation but I will see to that it gets added if it has.

That's exactly what I need the link for. Only one vote left and I volunteered to rate it.

Well, I think the game just hates you. I know you had problems downloading the game before, but for me the link works fine everytime I try. Might be an evil game by the developers who are lurking all the time: "Huh, eMTe is coming. Let's hurry to deactivate the download link!!!"

I think I uploaded the game to the FTP server some time ago. It should be in the requests folder or in my folder (but I'm not sure if it is the latest version).

I just downloaded it. Let me know if you still can't get it, or find it on the ftp, and I'll rate it instead. It's not been that long since I played the original Streets of Rage on a compilation.

Is on FTP.

Download started. Since game hates me download will probably stop near finish, but I dont mind. :)

Btw, tried link again. Timeout error. Connection speed is not the problem since in new flat I have furiously quick net. Must be curse of some sort, probably when I finally run the game universe will collapse or something... Armies of Good work hard to not let me do this and they hired best hackers for it...

edit: 5 mins left of ftp download...say goodbye to your families...

This is an amazing game on so many levels. It has that nostalgic Golden Axe, Double dragon feel to it, and you just cant help but seeing yourself in an arcade hall putting in another coin for more credits to play on.
The changing settings (backgrounds etc) of this game is amazing. It is way more than just your typical "now we are in the woods and now we are in the city and now it is night and now it is day" stuff...

This game will surely keep you entertained and with the story-splits then there is alot more gameplay hidden in there.
I will definently return to this gem.

Hmmm... Everyone's ok?

Multitude of options here, not many freeware games let you choose how your character appears on screen after death...

Good news: We don't have to worry anymore about the world collapsing or the internet breaking down, because of eMTe trying to download this game from cursed places and downloads that don't work.

"Streets of Rage Remake" is finally downloadable from CWF:

I'm sure this has been discussed before but bear in mind that this will probably have to have an eye kept on it, since it is still not complete and they are working on another new version as we speak (sorting out copyright issues though) and even that will not even be close to the final version.

Enemy AI could use some improvement and this task should be top priority.

Except this I dont see any major (or even minor) drawback, so maybe the plan is to make best what is already very good. Point for this.

I tried to download it yesterday night, but the download broke two times. Now I wanted to download it again and the links are gone. I found this on their forum:

"SEGA have us contacted regarding the download hosted on this site. While this issue is being resolved, please do not upload the game for others to download. Any links posted on this site will be removed. Thank you."

So it seems we can do nothing but wait a little longer for the final version... :(

IMHO, it's not looking good. Copyright holders have completely squashed remakes of games in the past (Such as for Chrono Trigger, Space Hulk etc). I can understand why, from a business point of view they may want to fight this particular remake.

- The original Streets of Rage is still being sold, via Virtual Console, iPhone, various Sega Console collections etc.
- Trademarks are weakened if they're not protected by the Trademark holder.
