UFO: Alien Invasion

"UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a strategy game featuring tactical combat against hostile alien forces which are about to infiltrate earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force. To be successful on the long run, you will also have to have a research team study the aliens and their technologies in order to learn as much as possible about their technology, their goals and the aliens themselves.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is heavily inspired by the 'X-COM' series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, 'UFO DEFENSE', became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made.
'UFO: Alien Invasion' is neither a sequel nor a remake of 'UFO DEFENSE' - we simply had the urge to create a similar strategy game, which will hopefully be as entertaining as the original was for the players (and for the developers, of course Wink ).

Gameplay:
The game is turn-based. Well, this might sound somewhat old school now, but trust us: turn-based games are fun!
Each member of your squad has a limited number so called "time units" each round, which are consumed when you order the unit to walk, to fire a weapon or to perform any of the other miscellaneous actions. When all your forces are out of time units, the alien's turn starts. In addition to eliminating as many enemies as possible, your mission is to minimize civilian casualties as well as to acquire parts of the advanced alien technology.
Once you've acquired sufficient samples of the unknown technology, your research labs will be able to reproduce the alien weapons and devices in order to use them against their original creators. " (Infos taken from official homepage)

Not just a good game. Remember the old UFO: Enemy unknown, or whatever it was called in your region of the world. This game is close to a remake and you simply cannot let go of it. I had to play it for a couple of hours yesterday, but actually ended up being late for an appointement due to this.

A must try for anyone.

I cant wait to get some time to play this again. I found it to be amazingly worth my time, and the story was good enough to get me involved and buried deep within my screen.

I have a question: Do the characters have personalities or are they just a squad of random cardboard people? Am I looking at Jagged Alliance or UFO type of characters?

They are more or less just cardboard people. :D (AKA targetpractice)

Damn it! There goes my desire to play. Ah, well, turn based squad combat is still fun, so maybe in time.

They do have stats and such but nothing more I am afraid... It really is a good game.

I started to play "UFO: Alien Invasion" yesterday evening and it really gives me the good old "X-COM" feeling. AI seems to be a bit higher than in average freeware games (and maybe even higher than in the original game) and recruiting new soldiers is harder (so you better don't loose to many of them).

So far I'm highly entertained and I'm looking forward to spend some more time with this game.

Wow! One thing's for sure: This game definitely has a great level/map design. Some hours ago I had to fight in an old mine that was taken over by the aliens. That was really thrilling!

But just one question: Is it really possible to shoot down UFOs with the original airplanes (the ones you have right from the beginning)? Every time that I tried so far, I lost my airplane (and it gets a bit expensive after a while).
