AGH! The old einstein riddle! i don;t knwo how many times I've politely informed people that it's a reference to a piece of literature from 1872, and that the german owns the fish!
-_-

Alright, to resurrect this, the guard sof the kign fidn this py in the wien cellar one day, right? So they chase him down and he drops his poison kit, but manages to suicide before they catch him. they realzsie there's only enough poison missing form the kit to poison one bottle of wine.

Now, the kign has a wine festival comign uip ina month, and he wants to get rid of ALL his odl wine; all 1017 bottles.

The poison has a 100% kill rate, but it only effects the drinker about 3-4 weeks after he's drunken the poison. Before that, it is impossible to detect.

Now, the kign want sthe leats number of people possible to kow about thsi, just in case someone drops dead 3-4 weeks after the festival,. he doesn;t want his subjects to die eithe,r so he gets soem prisoners to do a little taste testing.

How can he use the least # of prisoners possible to detect that 1 poisoned bottle of wine? He doesn;t care about how many die.
^_^

I wonder if PraetorScylla can still be found using the info in his sig. :)
I just stumbled on this thread and wanted to see if anyone wanted to revive it?

I think he was actually just that - PraetorScylla. I think that was his OG name as well. Or just Praetor...

I dont think there was any Praetor Scylla over at OG... Certainly he was not one of the "top" (meant as most recognizable) members, if he really came here from OG.

Here, we have the brainteaser, first one after revival of this thread!

Ah, I thought youll leave some fun for the rest. :) Not everybody knows immediately what's going on, people start looking for relations between groups of figures, their numbers and colours, some see country flags... Funny picture. :D

This one is good.

You have 3 sacks with plaques. One plaque says "only white balls", one "only black balls" and one says "both white and black balls". You know that ALL THREE sacks have incorrect plaques. You have only one move: you can take only one ball from one of the sacks and judging from the result you must put correct plaques on all sacks. From which sack you will take the ball?

I was sure I had this one, but then I found a flaw in my own logic... Damm*t. So the result could be: You open the sacks and look what is in them and then take a ball from either the white or black sack as one of them is bound to have 2 balls in them, and then you move it to the correct sack. You can of course tell by the weight which one has 2 balls if you are only allowed to look into/grab from one sack.

You have to take out a ball from the "black & white balls" sack. Because you know that all three plaques are wrong, you know that it contains only balls of the colour you just took out. After that you only have to change the two plaques of the remaining bags and that's it.

Dammit - that was what I was thinking at first but then I got myself confused and jumped to the other conclusion.
