Forget the kite for a minute...anyone who has ever eaten something greasy before a long car ride through nowhere can probably tell you that the invention that has most benefitted mankind is toilet paper.

Depends where you live or ride through. In Arizona desert toilet paper may be useful, but here in Poland...we have forests everywhere and forests mean leaves. As a Canadian you should second that. :D

I remember reading somewhere that bicycle was kind of a big deal, because otherwise there would have been too much interbreeding going on.
According to Stephen Stearns, a Yale professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, before the invention of the bicycle, the average distance between the birthplaces of spouses in England was 1 mile (1.6 kilometers). During the latter half of the 19th century, bikes upped the distance men went courting to 30 miles (48 km), on average. Scholars have identified similar patterns in other European countries.
So hooray for bikes.

At least you don't have Sosnowsky's Hogweed.

Speaking on subject, decision to plant some species on mass scale can be also considered some sort of invention.
