EURO 2012

Post by Pater Alf »

How do you like our Euro 2012 group, Chroelle?

Group B:
Netherlands
Germany
Portugal
Danmark

And on the other hand there is this group:

Group A:
Poland
Greece
Russia
Czech Republic

It seems the football god hadn't one of his fair days... :(

Edit: And here are the other groups as well:

Group C:
Spain
Italy
Croatia
Ireland

Group D:
England
France
Ukraine
Sweden

Doesnt it deserve its own thread?

Netherlands
Germany
Portugal
Danmark
Not too much. But then again - one of our current best players said that he loved the group because it is always more fun to play the top football teams in the world rather than play others... So he was happy. I think that we are going to need a lot of luck to go on from that group, but then again the last time we ran in to Portugal we won. And the last time we ran into Netherlands and thn Germany they were respective European champions and world champions, and that was back in 1992... And that kind of worked out for us. :) So perhaps a 20 year anniversary to celebrate that would be nice. :)

It sometimes happens that the most interesting elimination group is in fact the most dull of all. In fact, I wouldnt be surprised if all teams finished just like they appear on the above list having respectively 9, 6, 3 and 0 points.

I think of the Denmark group of course, sorry. 8)

I don't think so. Danmark is stronger than Portugal in my eyes. Portugal depends on a single player, Cristiano Ronaldo, and he tends to show childish behaviour on the field. If the game doesn't run the way he likes it, he often refuses to go on playing (of course he didn't leave the field) or does something completely silly. So you only have to take him out of the game (which is possible) and Portugal end up as a pretty average team.

When it comes to Germany it really depends on how they start the tournament. If they win their first match everything is possible. If they loose their first match, they might get nervous. The team has a very high quality, but on the other hand it is the youngest squad that ever played for Germany.

But maybe we should really open an own thread for that discussion...

I think you should add the remaining two groups to your first post, Pater. :D

Bump!

I think we should revive this thread and start spamming a little (in a positive way) to heat up the atmosphere. :D

All right. I say Ukraine deserves to win. They've had it coming for such a long time.

Germany doesn't have a good preperation at all. Some important players were injured (Klose, Götze, Mertesacker), the defense is a mess, the eight Munich player had three finals and lost them all (can't be good for the psyche) and won't join the rest of the squad before saturday (because they still had to play an idiot friendly match against the Netherlands today). I'm not sure there will be enough time to form a good team until the Euro 2012 starts.

And, surprisingly, this team will reach the final.

Not sure about that. I think there's the possibility of going home home after the first round if they don't win there first game.

Bad news for Spain: David Villa won't play for them at the Euro 2012. He doesn't reach the level of fitness needed to play such a tournament. Of course that will make them weaker, but on the other hand they have so many great players that they can compensate it.

This sentence would be valid if we were talking about any other team than Germany.

There is still an old saying that says:
"Soccer is a game of one ball, 2 teams, 22 players and when the referee blows off the game, Germany won".

The conspiracy theory says that they sometimes lose, only to prove that this saying is unjustified. :ninja: And indeed, considering the whole history of football they lost some of the matches they played and didnt win some of the tournaments.

Anyone in for guessing the results of the EURO 2012 matches?

Sure. Will you line them up, and be the betmaster?

I, for now, see The Netherlands as a strong competitor, but they can also be kicked out in the very beginning of the tournament. I dont believe in Italy this time around, but I dont know who will win this. I believe we will have a much better look into this as the first matches have been played. Who looks confident, who looks unprepared, and who looks cocky!
