The bending of a light ray depends only on the angle it hits the lens, and not on the thickness of the glass. This means thick lenses can be made thinner, as shown here. This is called a Fresnel lens, and is used to make magnifying sheets as well as in lighthouses.

Euler’s Disk is an interesting toy which allows you to get a real feel for a physical singularity. If there was no friction, slipping, energy loss or air to complicate things- then the equations predict in a finite length of time it should spin infinitely fast.

Multiple pendulums of varying length and thus frequency are set off at the same time. This creates an awesome pattern which phases in and out of order, at times looking chaotic, and eventually comes back to roughly where it started.

I almost got mad from reading about maths, science and linguistics, so no, thank you. :)

Maybe next month. :P

Oh i just picked out the best i found from reading through the blog. :)
And it's also to give credit to the source that i link it.

This video shows a fly-through of the Mandelbox set, a fractal which appears almost mechanical. It looks like an alien world, infinitely complex, but it is defined by a very simple formula.

Funny example of the confirmation bias. I write it for years, but only a little bit after it appears on Facebook as a meme.

Wild translation:

"Don't drink alcohol alone or with somebody. Because you can wake up in the morning alone or die tragically. Not being fully prepared for the meeting with your Creator."

Well, at least this meme fulfills my anxiety of being caught dead in front of movie with Christy Canyon with my 21st finger in my hand. So what?

Stand Still, Stay Silent, by Minna Sundberg is a beautiful and atmospheric webcomic about a post-apocalyptic world where most of the earth's population has been wiped out, and the nordic countries have become all that's left of civilization. I think it's half webcomic, and half a work of art.

http://sssscomic.com/index.php?id=about
It's been 90 years after the great cataclysm that ended of the old world. Most of the surviving population of the Known world live in Iceland, the largest safe area in existence, while the safe settlements in the other Nordic countries; Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, are small and scarce.

Countless mysterious and unspoken dangers lurk outside the safe areas, the Silent world, and hunters, mages and cleansers will spend their lives defending the settlements against the terrifying beings. Because of a great fear towards everything in the Silent world no official attempts to explore the ruins of the old have been made, and most of the information about it has turned into ancient lore, known by few.

But now, at last, it is time to send out an research crew into the great unknown! A poorly funded and terribly unqualified crew, but a crew nonetheless.

Anything featuring steampunk elements is more or less oh-some (body invented it before me).

^^ (sorry)

I'm curious about that maintenance locomotive!

A clip from a Walt Disney movie called Fantasia, with music by Hans Zimmer. It's a beautiful short story about life, death and mother nature.

Isn't that from the Da Vinci Code? I think the film was better with the original....

No it's a clip from a year 2000 Disney animation called Fantasia, except there's being used different music than in the original.

I'm pretty sure Fantasia is a bit older than that, actually. =)

What I was trying to mean was that the music is unless I'm mistaken from Da Vinci Code, but the original classical pieces fit the animation better as far as I recall. It's been decades since I last saw Fantasia, though.

Yeah, the original Fantasia was made in 1940. I did watch the 2000 movie all the way through, with the original soundtrack, and i personally think it was a bit meh. I think this music gives it a much better, more chilling experience.
