Drinking & Fun

Post by Zyx »

I was really impressed by Maz's recent avatar, because I recall I have exactly the same bottle in my "wine cellar". :shots:

...beside my more favourite brands, Laphroiag and Glenfiddich. Fortunately, the bottle of Walker, Tex... Red Label has been empty for a while. Somehow the Chivas is still unopened.

Oh well, Maz's avatar really makes me want to go over to kitchen and pour myself some whiskey.

What's your favourite?

For reference, my more sophisticated wine cellar: http://www.corkd.com/people/zyx/cellar

All right. Even though Chivas is pretty good, the best whiskey I have tasted is Lagavulin Single islay. 16 years old malt whiskey. Strong taste of smoke, nice colour and overall great aroma. Only bad side is the prize. A bottle in finland costs 55 EUR... :| So I do not regularly buy it. I hovever recommend it to all of you who appreciate good whiskey :)

Yearh, isn't it awful? It's a new "innovation"... I'm not quite sure, but I think the idea behind it, was to make it the new standard, to prevent people from hitting eachother with the bottles.. A plastic bottle doesn't hurt that much... :p Hehe... But still, it's awful.. they're ugly, and it's if the beer just doesn't taste that good in a plastic bottle.. :( Besides, a plastic bottle doesn't keep the beer as cold as a glass bottle.. So the only positive things about it, it that they're less heavy, no violence, and they doesn't break when you drop them (Which is a sad thing about glass bottles :|)...

I refuse to spend my money on them! :viking:

Hm... I like my drinks to be sweet. So I usually go for Drambuie or Southern&Amarreto ;)

I'm a Bacardi kinda guy. I don't drink very often though, both due to my work's zero alcohol policy, and other stuff you needn't know about. Yah, just call me a tease.

For some reason I can stand Whiskey, but this

is something I really like. I also like good beer like Baltian porters and many Belgian beers.

I recently came back from a trip from Scotland and I brought with me couple of local specialities.

Of course I was a bit worried how they would survive the trip back home as I couldn't take them as carry-on (thanks, culture of fear). Fortunately I only had to hint that I had whiskey in my baggage and my bag got a nice "fragile"-flag on it. All bottles made it safe and sound to Helsinki. Thanks, BA!

What I really enjoyed buying whiskey in Scotland was how in that whsikey shop the guy knew about whiskeys and he had to double-check that did I really like Laphoirag (anyone who has touched that stuff knows exactly why) and recommended me couple of bottles. The most amazing bit in this was that I got to sample them, something legislation probably forbids in Finland. Yeah, now when I think about it, it really sucks that you can't taste what different brands taste before buying... :shots:
