Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Been a bit slow here recently. Maria and I have been busy. We spend most of the day at a nearby hobby shop. A friend of ours, Bob, used to have a hobby shop in Waukegan. He moved his shop to Kenosha a couple years ago. We are maybe 3 blocks away from him. I spend the day working on projects with him...

Re: SimCity 3000 Ulimited Game Crash
Found the solution. Turns out SC3K and SimCity 4 both do not properly run on dual (Or more) core processor computers. When the game starts, press CTRL+ALT+DEL, go to running processes, find the .exe file for the game. Right click it, select 'Set Affinity' and uncheck all but one CPU. Works fine then.

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
CTA in Chicago offers rides for a penny. One of the beer companies sponsors this and makes up the difference in fares. Kenosha Transit has an electric streetcar line, most of the cars are PCC types (early 1950s production) bought from Toronto Transit Commission. They are painted in historic liveries...

Re: Interesting pictures, videos and flash animations
Don't think I ever posted this, but here's a song called 'RTA' (Parody of TNT) by Chicago radio personality Steve Dahl. It's about the 1983 budget meltdown of the RTA, who ran all suburban bus and rail service. Because of this meltdown, the RTA was split into Metra Rail and Pace Suburban Bus. 30 yea...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Santa Claus was on the streetcar today. A newspaper reporter was aboard, got a picture of me and Santa. Might be in tomorrow's newspaper. Went home, Maria and I took Skoda to see Santa. By that time the reporter had left. But Skoda got to see Santa on the streetcar today.

Tormuse, Pager, Mr. Ford sounds a lot like Washington DC Mayor Marion Barry.

More of them apparently.
I've become no stranger to being up at night. Worsening pain problems keep me awake. Even after a cortizone injection to my back, it is still a problem.

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Most cyclists do share the sidewalks. I've never had a problem with cyclists myself. They usually do indicate when they are behind you, which is not a problem. There are some who run down pedestrians, and that minority of cyclists are probably why the ordinance exists.

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
The question I have is, how does the law as it is actually implemented, compare to the law as it is on the books. Some laws made sense when passed, and when they are outdated, sometimes they never get formally repealed or updated for some reason. Waukegan has a city ordinance against riding a bicycl...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
As per the "rules" a driver is never allowed to use their own phone to call 9-1-1. They must call dispatch, who will then make the call. She could have let the passengers do it, but then she'd be in trouble for not calling dispatch in an emergency. The rulebook seems to be written by a tho...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Someone sent me this link today. http://www.addictinginfo.org/2013/09/09/flash-mob-steps-up-in-support-of-fired-walmart-workers-video/ Seems these sorts of protests are gaining traction in America. They are effective, I'll say that. Walmart, and Pace, are reasons why unionized labor is still crucial...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
I'm happy to report to everyone, that the dramatic saga with Pace has finally ended. Went back to Waukegan on the train Wednesday, had a friend to see who needed some help with his computer. Got to the Waukegan station, have a 10 minute wait for the bus I need. Another guy was at the station, panhan...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
That brings up another serious problem with America's welfare system. The system is designed to keep you on it. Years ago, I had to be on Social Security, because my seizure meds were thousands of dollars a month, and with a newly developed back problem, I was unable to work or afford insurance. The...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Yeah, Pager, the mentality of kids now really sickens me. I expect in another decade or so it will be much worse too. Technically, I am disabled too Jay. Between my seizure condition, and all sorts of ailments with my back, knee, and right shoulder, there's days that doing much of anything is painfu...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Have Internet at home now, and things have been very peaceful lately. Maria and Skoda are much happier here in Wisconsin, as am I. We're settling in quite nicely. I spend much of the day at the hobby shop helping Bob, the owner, with customers, and I have part of his shop for my computer work too no...

SimCity 3000 Ulimited Game Crash
Has anyone else experienced SimCity 3000 Unlimited quitting to the desktop by itself? Been playing SC3KU quite a bit lately and several times now, the game closes out completely with no warning at all. Very frustrating, at the least. My laptop is an AMD Turion X2 2Ghz CPU, 2 GB RAM (DDR2 800 MHz, Du...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Have not been online much recently. Home phone is set up at the new place, but internet won't be until the 21st. Phone company said there was a 3+ week backlog in Wisconsin and parts of Ohio. Wisconsin probably being from the exodus of people from Illinois. They were able to move up setting up the h...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Chroelle, In some ways, if were to have grown up without a known disability, childhood and formative years may have been better. But then, adulthood would not have worked out so well. After being labeled as "Autistic" in 1990 (Aspergers was not recognized in the USA at that time), I found ...
