Re: Cheating in games
Actually, it was MI2 and I thought I needed a stick. I can't remember if on second try I realized I didn't actually need a stick.

Re: Cheating in games
That is patience. I remember getting stuck on the first Monkey Island, if I remember correctly I wasn't able to find a stick or something, and it took years before I continued the game.

Re: What is the purpose of a compiler?
What's the link between formal logic and chaotic, irrational human behaviour, Zyx? Do we know more now? The never-ending fight against entropy and chaos. Computers and logic systems are created by humans and have certain assumptions about their existence that set limits but also mean that everythin...

Re: The Breakdown
Sites like OG and CWF has been created by certain online civilisation(s) which died, but later come new generations who feel it is in fashion to leave something on this column, like "Johnny kissed Mary here", you know. Bots do the fine job. They come, unaware of what CWF (or any other) si...

True, not sure where the places for heavily anarchist, individualist and elitist people are on the internet anymore except these derelict phpbb boards.

Re: The Breakdown
Yeah, I think the Archive.org guys are doing that. We probably could still hunt for those games and periodically send them over to them with metadata. Some kind of preservation site for forgotten or impossible to find games may become necessary to establish sooner than I expected.

Re: School - was it worth it?
I think it's just one tiny aspect of school that we learn whatever the powers that be have determined is the baseline about the surrounding world. The bigger thing are the tools and mindset to continue that on our own and solve whatever problems we might face. Yet, with the ability of accessing all ...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Nowadays, with faster internet connections and faster computers, pages don't have to be built to load over slow dialup connections. Then smartphones and the developing world getting internet on their phones happened. The Google front page is optimized to fit on a lower level to as few TCP/IP packet...

The discussions are ephemeral. That they happened, was important, not that they are stored. All these posts, in vain.

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
The browsers started recently to warn if the user was filling a form on a non-secure page. This whole forum is now HTTPS secured always so you should not see any warnings - let me know if you do. The certificate-something-something isn't something is probably due to the site using Cloudflare's share...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
I hope the email didn't feel like spam. I noticed the old domain was gone and didn't want to lose people because of that. I sent it to all people who had ever posted something on this forum (~300 people in total). The digital decay had had its toll and almost one in four addresses didn't work anymor...

Re: The little Inn by the wayside
Ohai. New year and new version of phpBB. This time it's 3.2 . The top-right logo will be updated soon-ish back to normal. We hopefully should see less spambots, the forum is running on the fastest and latest PHP 7.0, and the YouTube embeds are now HTML5 for your viewing pleasure. Also, the site now ...
