Interesting thoughts. I guess my view is that any technology by itself is neutral. It becomes good or bad depending on how we judge the uses it is put to. Now to contradict myself I think it is a good thing because am optimistic that more secure forms of internet communication will significantly red...

The beer did not cost 27 kroner. It cost 25 plus the 2 fee they paid railo for bringing their change making 27. So the equation is not 3x9+2=27 because that is counting the money paid to Railo twice and ignoring the change they received. Instead it shold be 25 + 3 + 2 = 30. Can anyone explain this b...

Poet's Corner

This is one of my favourites! To the Parcae A single summer grant me, great powers, and a single autumn for fully ripened song that, sated with the sweetness of my playing, my heart may more willingly die. The soul that, living, did not attain its divine right cannot repose in the nether world. But ...

I have created a few threads since reading this but Zandrav's idea is a good one.

I challenge someone to create a thread about the internet, its history and repercussions. Where has it been beneficial and what harm has it done?

Road Rage

Have you ever been a victim of or witness of a road rage incident? Have you ever been the culprit? What is an acceptable level of abuse to yell at someone who has just done something really stupid, inconsiderate or downright dangerous? Are road users taking the law in to their own hands because traf...

Brain Teasers and Maths Puzzles

Rules: Don't include the answer straight away. Allow at least five more posts before submitting the answer. This is to give someone a chance to post the answer thus stealing your glory. If five more brain teasers or spam posts are posted then you can post your answer. This first one is a paradox of ...

There are a few different versions of the license but they all amount to the same thing. None of them should cause us too much worry as all this legal stuff is really about protecting the technology from patents. You must include the license in the distribution and the source code or instructions on...

The problem is trying to integrate people with incompatible value systems. The larger and more diverse the population, the more difficult it is. For instance, it is reasonable to expect a country whose population is predominantly muslim to enact Islamic laws. If people with very different value syst...

The state should and does have the right to step in when children are put at risk, but the act of reproduction itself is a private thing. Do you really want the state to judge who can and can't have children, and dole out licenses to the lucky ones? I don't, because I like living in a free society ...

No we are not a hate group - we only hate the green balloon smiley  We love our enemies. You should count it a privilege and an honour to be counted as our enemy. If your bar was merely harmless, then you would only have our contempt. But because it represents a force of unreason we must op...

Just as society gives itself the right to make laws regarding the care of children, it can give itself the right to make laws surrounding their conception. I said that everyone should consider adoption as an option, not just women who need IVF to conceive. A woman may very well still want to have ch...

I have always thought of it as somewhat perverse that the western world spends huge resources on expensive IVF, while orphans starve to death in poor areas of the world. This is a very good point - the needs of existing children against the irrational idea that you could not love and care for an ad...

Stupid laws.

For instance, in Queensland Australia our criminal code states you must not wear slippers outside your home after 2100. Bizarre! But when the code was written the assumption was slippers were worn instead of boots so you could move quietly around while you went about the business of burglary. The co...

SGSW must also be an enemy since he is the owner of the bar in question. In the short term his opposition will be useful to us as the conflict will stimulate people to think for themselves which must inevitably lead them to one conclusion: the society holds the only hope for this forum and our world...
